    3Required Credits
    • The minimum required credits to be taken for each course are 26 for the Master’s Degree course, 37 for the Doctoral degree course, and 58 for Master-Doctor Integrated Course. This required credit shall be governed by the Bylaws of the Graduate School.
    • The minimum required credit in major for each department shall be at least 1/2 of the minimum required credits for the course.
    • If it is necessary for the major, the credits earned from other departments under the supervision by the supervising professor and the department supervising professor may be recognized as the credit in major under approval by the Dean of Graduate School
    4Required Subjects
    There are no required subjects for the Master’s Degree Course, Doctoral Degree Course, and Master-Doctor Integrated Course.
    5Prerequisite Subjects
    • Master's Degree Course : The new students who entered the Master's Degree course but majored in different disciplines during their undergraduate course should take the undergraduate ‘Data Structure’ course within one year as a principle. However, if the supervising professor and the head professor of the department agree, the prerequisite subjects may be waivered or additional prerequisite subjects can be included.
    • Doctoral Degree Course : There are no requirements regarding any prerequisite subjects for the new students who majored in different discipline during their Master's Degree course.
    • Master-Doctor Integrated Course : The same as the Master's Degree course.
    6General Test
    • Master's Degree Course : The subjects of the general test shall be three major subjects within the Master's Degree course.
    • Doctoral Degree Course : The subjects of the general test shall be four major subjects among the major subjects of the Doctoral Degree course.
    • Master-Doctor Integrated Course : The subjects of the general test shall be four subjects among the major subjects of the Master-Doctor Integrated Course.
    7Thesis Supervision, Presentation, and Evaluation
    • Supervising Professor
      • Selection of supervising professors shall be in accordance with the rules enacted by the faculty meeting before the beginning of the semester in which the new student entered the department.
      • For the Master's Degree course, the student must receive the thesis supervision for at least one year from the thesis supervising professor (advisor). However, when the supervising professor is changed, the student must receive the thesis supervision for at least six months from the thesis supervising professor.
      • As for the Doctoral Degree course, the student must receive the thesis supervision for at least two years till submitting a thesis from the thesis supervision professor for at least two years. However, if the supervising professor (advisor) is changed, the student must receive the thesis supervision for at least one year from the new supervising professor.
      • As for the Master-Doctor Integrated Course, the student must receive the thesis supervision for at least three years till submitting a thesis from the thesis supervision professor. However, if the supervising professor is changed, the student must receive the thesis supervision for at least 1 year from the new thesis supervision professor.
       
    • Students of Doctoral Degree Courses and Master-Doctor Integrated Courses
    • The students of Doctoral Degree courses and Master-Doctor Integrated Courses may submit the application thesis only when the student meets the following basic conditions and additional conditions, submits documentary evidence to the Graduate School Committee of the Department for confirmation, and is confirmed by the said committee to satisfy such conditions.Recognition of performance shall be governed by the Bylaws of the School of Engineering.
      • Basic Requirement (Both ① and ② should be satisfied.)
        ① The graduation requirements for the Doctoral Degree course of the School of Engineering must be satisfied. For calculating the publication performance, the articles published in the journals of a lab or a department shall not be recognized. Also, articles published in the journals that is published within Hanyang University are not recognized, as well.
        ② The student shall be approved for publication of at least one article as the main author, along with the supervising professor, in an internationally recognized journal (SCI, SCIE) or the journal of an internationally recognized academic conference (those listed in the “List of Internationally Recognized Academic Conferences” in ‘BK 21 Computer Science Sector.’)


      • Additional Requirement(ither of ① or ② must be satisfied.)
        ① The student meets all the requirements for graduating from the School of Engineering with the SCI level articles he/she authored as the main author with the assistance from the supervising professor.
        ② In addition to the requirement for graduation from the School of Engineering, the student exceeds the publication requirements by another 100%. However, such additional publications shall be recognized only if they are published through the journals registered with the National Research Foundation of Korea, internationally recognized journals (SCI, SCIE), or the journals of international academic conferences which are listed in the “List of Internationally Recognized Academic Conferences” of “BK21 Computer Science Sector.’
        (If an official certificate of publication authorization can be obtained, an approval for publication can also be recognized.)
       
    • Thesis Evaluation Process for the Master's Degree Course.
    • The process for Master's Degree thesis evaluation process conducted by the department is specified herein.
      • Requirements of Thesis Submission for a Master's Degree
        No other requirements are applicable other than those specified in the bylaws of Graduate School.

      • Date of Oral Presentation for the Thesis
        1st semester: Wednesday of the third week of May / 2nd semester: Wednesday of the third week of November

      • Conditions for Exemption of Oral Presentation
        ① Two academic presentations in domestic conferences; or,
        ② One academic presentation in an international conference; or
        ③ Publication in a journal that is to be registered with NRF or higher
        However, all these performances are recognizable only if the student is named as the main author or the corresponding author. Also, an exemption of the oral presentation is only granted when the student meets the abovementioned criteria ‘and’ obtains the approval for exemption from the supervising professor. In the case of an oral presenter, he/she shall prepare an answer to the comment from an evaluator during the presentation in the form of a Thesis Presentation Report and obtain confirmation from the relevant evaluator.

      • Submission of the Evaluation Version of the Thesis
        The students who are scheduled to give presentations (or those whose presentation was waivered) shall submit three copies of thesis to the Dean of the department by no later than one week before the oral presentation. Those who fail to submit the thesis within the deadline shall be excluded from any subsequent evaluation process.

      • Assignment of the Evaluators
        The supervising professor shall, within the first week of the month before the month of oral presentation (1st semester: April, 2nd semester: October) recommend two evaluators per student to the Dean of the department, who shall assign the evaluators in consideration of the balance of the entire faculty members.
    8Others
    Any issues related to the students in Master-Doctor Integrated Courses that are not covered herein shall be governed by the bylaws of the Graduate School regarding the operation of the Master-Doctor Integrated Course of the Graduate School. Any issues not covered herein shall be governed by the faculty meeting of The Computer Science & Engineering.
    9Date of Effectiveness
    This internal bylaw shall take effect from the first semester of 2017 but be applicable starting from the new students of the first semester of 2017.

    This bylaw shall take effect from the first semester of 2017 and be applicable starting from the new students of the first semester of 2017.
    (However, this bylaw shall be applied retrospectively concerning the qualification requirement for thesis application of the students of Master-Doctoral Integrated Course to the students who entered the School prior to the 1st semester of 2017.)
